Our Commitment to Accessibility

Trailer Shopper® is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. Trailer Shopper® aims to conform with WCAG 2.1 level AA.

Accessibility Features

  • Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements are reachable and usable with a keyboard alone.
  • Screen reader support — semantic HTML, ARIA landmarks, and skip-to-main-content links throughout the site.
  • Reduced motion — animations are minimized when your device requests prefers-reduced-motion.
  • High contrast — color contrast meets or exceeds WCAG AA (4.5:1 for body text). Increased contrast respected via prefers-contrast.
  • Visible focus indicators — keyboard focus is clearly visible on all interactive elements.
  • Form labels — every form field has a programmatically associated label.
  • Image alt text — meaningful images carry descriptive alt text; decorative images are marked appropriately.
  • Resizable text — content remains readable when zoomed up to 200%.

Why We Built It In Rather Than Using a Toggle Widget

We deliberately do not use accessibility overlay widgets (such as third-party "accessibility menus" that bolt onto a site). Independent research and recent legal case law (Murphy v. Eyebobs, Tepfer v. accessiBe) show that these overlays can interfere with assistive technology, fail to actually improve accessibility, and have themselves been the subject of lawsuits. We instead build accessibility directly into the site so that every visitor — regardless of device, browser, or assistive technology — gets the same accessible experience without enabling anything.

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility, there may be some limitations:

  • Some user-uploaded dealer images and videos may lack alt text. We work with dealers to add descriptions where possible.
  • Third-party embedded content (Google Maps, payment processors, video players) may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. We choose vendors that prioritize accessibility and report issues upstream.
  • Older blog posts may use formatting that doesn't pass automated accessibility scans. We update these as they are revisited.

Assessment Approach

Trailer Shopper® assesses the accessibility of this website by self-evaluation using automated tools (Lighthouse, axe-core), manual testing with keyboard-only navigation, and screen reader testing (VoiceOver, NVDA).
