Trailer Hitch Accessories - Make your Life Easier

Anyone who has a trailer knows that the most important step is to pick the right trailer and hitch to do the job. But there is another step that you should consider before all is said and done. That step is to look at buying some hitch accessories that will make your job easier.

Trailer hitch accessories arent necessary to buy, but why not take a little peak at them if they will make your towing easier, safer and more fun? Here are a few of the hitch accessories that can make your life easier and more pleasurable.

 Hitch balls: The hitch ball is probably the most important part of any ball hitch. You can change this ball to suit your needs. Most hitch balls are made of a sturdy metal, such as chrome. Sometimes you will find that you need a larger ball to fit the trailer. You may also find that you need a bigger heavier ball to tow more weight. Hitch balls are easily removed and replaced.

 Hitch Covers: Hitch covers are more decorative than anything. You can get them with your favorite sports teams logo, or your favorite brand of vehicle. They do serve one useful function though; they will help keep debris and dirt from invading your hitch receiver. Besides that, theyre nice to look at!

 Hitch Locks: Trailer hitch locks are pretty much like hitch covers, except they can be locked with a key. A hitch lock will keep debris from entering your hitch receiver and will keep unwanted people (or thieves) from releasing the trailer from the hitch.

 Trailer Hitch Pin: A trailer hitch pin is used to secure the trailer to the hitch. They look similar to a long wire (but thicker) and you just slide it through a hole in the top of the trailer hitch and secure it in place with a spring loaded clip. They arent fancy, but they get the job done. They also make traveling with a trailer much safer.

 Box Plug: You can fit a box plug over a receiver hitch when its not in use. It makes it look better and will keep dirt and other debris from entering the receiver hole.

 Reducer Sleeve: A reducer sleeve will reduce the size of the receiver opening. Lets say you have a class 5 receiver hitch, you can use the hitch sleeve to reduce the receiver opening to fit a class 4 hitch or smaller.

 Bike Rack: You can always buy a bike rack that will fit neatly into the many receiver hitches available today. Hooking up a bike rack directly to your hitch is much easier than fooling around with the ones that strap to your car. Its as simple as sliding the rack into the receiver.

 Spare Tires: You can throw a spare tire rack on your receiver hitch. Some of the racks can hold more than one tire. These would be useful if you plan on going on a long trip.

 Cooler: They make racks that can carry a cooler or two, which attach directly onto your receiver hitch. Coolers are a big item and take up a lot of trunk room. Wouldnt it be easier to carry them on the back of your vehicle?

Well theres a pretty good list of hitch accessories to get you started. There are more of course, but those are the most popular ones.

Most of the accessories listed above could be bought for under a hundred dollars, and are well worth the cost. It might be worth your while to check a few out.
